BIG COUNTRY |
My niece Kabri Butler drew a coveted Alton CWMU permit on the famous Paunsaugunt Plateau in Southern Utah. I am friends with the owner Wade Heaton who operates Color Country Outfitters. It is one of the greatest mule deer properties in the West. Wade gave Kabri premium dates to hunt. When we showed up they had several bucks for her to try to go after, lots of big 190-200" typicals. However, she wanted something with character and cheaters. I can't blame her. So we decided to try our luck turning up this super elusive old trashy buck named Big Country. He was a living legend on the CWMU. What was cool too was this buck loved Trophy Rock. On the second day, Jared and I glassed him up feeding on a thick oak brush hillside. Jared and Kabri snuck in while I stayed back guiding them into position. They got within 200 yards and hunkered down waiting him out for a clear shot. She got a bullet in him but he was still on his feet and with a well placed second shot it put him down for good. This buck has such a cool look to him. Kabri and her Dad were all smiles!
He has a 34"outside spread and grosses 202".
